I had the privilege of attending the second show of the Pretenders new Relentless tour at The Fillmore in Philadelphia on July 14, 2024. The iconic venue was filled with eager fans, ready to witness a legendary performance by the band.
From the moment Chrissie Hynde stepped on stage, the energy in the room was electrifying. Her powerful vocals and charismatic stage presence captivated the audience, taking them on a musical journey through the band's extensive catalog of hits. Hynde's signature voice, coupled with the band's tight instrumentation, created a dynamic and engaging performance that kept fans on their feet throughout the night.
As part of our ongoing Player Spotlight, we wanted to focus on David Anthony Page. This seasoned bassist injected fresh energy into the band's what was already an incredible performance. From the opening riff, Page's presence was undeniable. His driving bass lines, seamlessly complemented Hynde's vocals and the band's instrumentation. Whether laying down the foundation for classic hits like "Brass in Pocket" or adding a modern flair to the newer tracks, Page's versatility shone through.
Several moments showcased his talent. During a particular part of “Boots Of Chinese Plastic” section, Page's melodic style left the audience in awe. His stage presence further amplified the band's overall performance. David Anthony Page's addition to the Pretenders proves to be a masterstroke. His talent and dedication are evident in every note he plays, making him a vital part of the band's electrifying live experience.
