This week the Cold War Kids took the stage at the Fillmore in Philadelphia and captivated a packed crowd, celebrating their two-decade run and their new self-titled tenth studio album. The evening started with Asbury Park’s favorite son, Joe P (joepthehyena) who pumped up his near hometown crowd with a thrilling performance kicking off what would become a remarkable night.
The show was a long-awaited return to Philadelphia since the band’s last appearance in 2020. From start to finish they incorporated new material while also appealing to their long-time fan’s dedication, making sure to include such favorites as “First,” “Run Away with Me,” and “So, Tied Up,” their 2017 collaboration with Bishop Briggs.
Nathan Willett (vocals, piano, guitar), Matt Maust (bass guitar), David Quon (guitar), Matthew Schwartz (keyboards), and Joe Plummer (drums) have an undeniable onstage chemistry enhancing their distinct sound with the night’s synergy.
Throughout the show, the crowd erupted with excitement as they recognized the intro to their most beloved songs, dancing and singing along with every verse. The Fillmore served as the perfect setting for a Cold War Kids show affording fans exceptional sound and amazing sightlines usually reserved for larger venues, but with a feeling of intimate access to the band.
The Cold War Kids have an amazing catalog of great music that they have amassed over the past twenty years. Overall, the night highlighted just how incredible they are to experience live. If you have not already purchased tickets to a show near you do not hesitate, you won’t regret it.
